Professional Experience

For over twenty five years I have been in private practice in St. Louis, Missouri.  My educational background is located at the bottom of this page.  I started out in 1986 with the law firm of Shifrin & Treiman as an associate in the Tax Department.  After a couple of years, Shifrin & Treiman dissolved and I joined the law Firm of Herzog, Crebs & McGhee in downtown St. Louis where I headed up the tax and business practice and became a partner in 1994.  I left Herzog, Crebs & McGhee in 1999 and joined a firm which merged with Husch & Eppenberger, LLC in 2000.  At Husch and Eppenberger, LLC, I continued to practice as a partner  the general business and the tax and estate planning group.  While at Husch & Eppenberger, LLC I was the firm's representative to TerraLex, an organization comprised of independent law firms throughout the world.  Through TerraLex, I have made contacts with lawyers throughout the world which allows me to refer clients whom have legal needs in other jurisdictions to attorneys who I know and whom I have confidence in.

In early 2005 I left Husch & Eppenberger, LLC to start my own legal practice.  Essentially my decision to start my own practice was driven by my desire to keep legal costs for my clients affordable and reasonable.  Although the solo practice of law can be challenging at times, it also can very interesting.  Although I maintain a small outside legal office, the majority of my legal work is done in my home office.  Essentially I found that by maintaining the majority of my practice through my home office I could keep my overhead costs at a minimum thereby allowing me to keep my legal fees reasonable for my clients.  It also makes for a pretty compelling argument for a home office deduction when the IRS has had audit meetings with me for my clients in my home office!

In addition to my legal practice, I also serve as a volunteer member of the Town & Country Board of Adjustment which is the board which must approve any zoning variances in the City of Town & Country, Missouri.   I live in Town & Country, Missouri with my wife, two kids and two Labrador retrievers.  In my spare time I run half-marathons as a member of the St. Louis Track Club and I volunteer as the baseball/softball coordinator for the St. Anselm Athletic Association in West St. Louis County, Missouri.
